Contest Rules

ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open to Canadian acreage owners who are amateur photographers. Ineligible are those who earn their living from photography and employees of Acreage Life or its publisher, Western Producer Publications. You do not need to be an Acreage Life subscriber to participate. All entries must be received no later than Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.

SUBJECT MATTER: Show us why your pets are important to you, and why living with them in the country is the best! All photos submitted must have been taken in 2008.

PRIZES: $500 first prize, $300 second prize and $200 third prize. Honourable mention prizes may be awarded.

FORMAT: Submitted pictures must be unmounted and unframed, high-quality photographs printed on glossy photo paper. Photo size must be 4" x 6" or 5" x 7". You may send up to five photos per entry. An entry form must accompany each entry package.

LABELLING: Each image must have a sticky label on the back, clearly marked with the photographer's name, mailing address and daytime telephone number, plus a brief description of the pet and the circumstances portrayed. Photos with automatic date stamps will not be considered. Do not write directly on photo backs.

JUDGING: The editors of Acreage Life will select the winning photos, based upon visual appeal, creativity, clarity and composition. Judges' decisions will be final.

PUBLICATION: Winners must agree to one-time publication in Acreage Life (in the Winter 2008-2009 issue), publication and archiving on the magazine's website, and promotional use of their photographs. Other selected entries may be shown on our website as well. Apart from the stated prizes, there will be no other compensation for the use of the photographs. Photographers retain full rights to their images.

OWNERSHIP: Contestants must own full rights to all the images they submit. Contestants are responsible for model releases. Thus, contestants will hold Western Producer Publications blameless for any breach of copyright.

RESPONSIBILITY: Submissions will not be returned. Do not send us your only copy of a photo.

ACCEPTANCE OF RULES: Your participation in the Acreage Life Precious Pets Photo Contest signifies your complete acceptance of the contest rules.
